Matthew 6:26 (TPT)
"Consider the birds—do you think they worry about their existence? They don’t plant or reap or store up food, yet your heavenly Father provides them each with food. Aren’t you much more valuable to your Father than they?"
Many of us have the impression that some of our problems are too insignificant for God. We think to ourselves, "God has bigger problems to worry about" or "He wouldn't care about something as small as this." Well, I'm here to tell you that you're wrong. He does care.
The more time you spend with Him, the more you come to realize that He's interested in every single detail about you. And why wouldn't He be? He made you.
After spending 4 days away from my house, I returned home from work to discover my freezer was completely defrosted. It turns out that my street fell under some areas undergoing an upgrade to improve the power supply. Sadly, this operation would span for five days during which there would be no power supply at all.
On any other day, this wouldn't have bothered me, especially because I spent all my time at work and only came back home to sleep and prep for work the following day. But this wasn't any other day. Today I had thirty thousand naira worth of beef in my freezer with absolutely no alternative way to store it. As if that wasn't bad enough, the power would not be back for another three days.
If you are a Christian, then you know that many churches embark on a fast coupled with prayer at the start of a new year. My church was no exception. I spent most of my day listening to sermons and meditating on God's word with the expectation of getting home to pray and break my fast. Now I was faced with a bag of meat hours away from spoiling with no solution in sight.
I decided I wasn't going to let this situation ruin the moment I had been waiting for all day. I went into my place of prayer and stayed with a single song that the Lord laid on my heart
"You've been faithful, Lord
From the ages past
That is why your name
Is forever more"
I then went on to thank God for His good works in my life from the previous year and even for the good work He started doing this year. I made sure to avoid asking for anything other than an increased desire to serve Him like I have never served Him before. And with that, I broke my fast.
Moments later, I received a phone call from my laundry woman. This was strange because we had already shared our New Year's greetings on the first, and I didn't need her services yet. It turned out she called to say thank you for a little token I shared with her on Christmas Day. Just as I was about to end the call, I suddenly remembered my predicament and asked her if she knew where I could purchase some blocks of ice.
To my greatest surprise, not only did she know where to get them, but she also offered to bring them to my house herself. It was in that moment I realized what had just happened. God had proven Himself once again to be Jehovah Jireh—the Lord who provides.
