Weirdly, I consider myself a prayer machine. Every day I dedicate two hours to praying because it keeps me grounded.
If I haven’t prayed in two days, I begin to think something is wrong and strangely, my spirit is burdened.
But there was a point in my life that I didn’t pray for a week.
Because I thought, “God doesn’t care, why talk to him?”
I was going through a household matter that froze my faith for a while. I didn’t care about life, death, God, work, foundation…And… I’m pretty sure I cursed God in my many rants during that time. When I ranted to my friend, she asked me,” Have you prayed?”
Do you know what the hardest thing is? Praying when you’re hurting and going through a tough time.
When life feels unbearable, prayer can feel pointless. The fact is that we don’t talk about how prayer can be hard when you are going through tough times. You cannot utter the words,” Help me,” because you feel God is not doing anything and will not do anything.
But that period is when prayer is most needed.
While I was going through something bad, do you know the second I got on my knees to pray? God gave me a song in my spirit, “Forever You will be” by Chris Oyakhilome. It was a timely reminder. The lyrics, “Forever you will be, the lamb upon the throne, I gladly bow my knees to worship you alone….”
I realized that God must be worshipped no matter what and it makes no sense holding on to mountains. Tell God about those mountains.
You don’t have to have the perfect words. Sometimes, all you need is, “God, I don’t understand, but I trust you.”
And that is enough for our Father. God can see everything you’re going through and he is working through it.
Now you’re thinking,” What if you pray and nothing changes? That’s when faith is truly tested. It’s easy to trust God when things are going well, but true faith is believing even when you can’t see the outcome.
So, in those horrible moments when you feel like giving up, keep praying.
When you don’t have the right words, keep praying.
Even when it feels like no one is listening, keep praying.
Because God hears and He is always at work, even when we don’t understand how.
So, please do not give up. If you cannot utter those words, write them down. That’s still prayer and communication with our father.
I hope you don’t give up on God today.
