Searching the internet for a Social Cause to write about can be a White elephant Project. Especially with T-Pain pressing my neck and then saying, “E lo fokan bale” more dreadful than I thought.

So tonight, as I write this article, the fear of how much Mama Nkechi will sell three litres for me tomorrow keeps me wide awake, and at another failed attempt in writing this story (Or what would you call it?)

Well a social cause refers to an issue or movement that affects the well-being of individuals or communities, and is aimed at improving society. These causes often address injustices, inequalities, or problems that hinder social progress.

Now, let’s talk about the obvious issue, I mean the reason why I have gulped three bottles of fearless.

Being broke (Poverty) is a persistent global issue, affecting millions of individuals and families worldwide. It robs people of their dignity, limits opportunities, and perpetuates inequality. Alleviating poverty requires a multifaceted approach, addressing its root causes and empowering communities to thrive.

Here's how to go broke

  • Being a resident of Nigeria
  • Unemployment and low-income jobs
  • Social inequality and discrimination
  • Lack of management of resources

Strategies for Alleviating broke-ness (Poverty)

  • Develop a Saving Habit: Despite financial challenges, cultivating a saving habit—even if it’s just a little—can create a safety net for tough times. Saving small amounts consistently can build over time and offer protection against unexpected expenses.

  • Promote Financial Literacy: Many people fall into poverty because they lack knowledge about budgeting, investing, and managing their finances. Community programs that teach financial literacy can empower individuals to make better financial decisions.

  • Support Job Creation and Entrepreneurship: Governments and organizations should focus on creating sustainable jobs and encouraging small businesses. Entrepreneurship, when supported by access to capital and training, can be a powerful tool for lifting people out of poverty.

  • Tackle Social Inequality: Breaking down barriers like discrimination and unequal access to resources can help level the playing field. Policies that promote equality in education, healthcare, and job opportunities are crucial in reducing poverty.

Alleviating poverty demands collective action, compassion, and a sustained commitment. It’s not just about handing out money or resources—it’s about addressing the root causes, like the pepper woman that blames the dollar rate for her costly peppers or the online vendors that still won’t bring his market prices down after the dollar went down. T-Pain like Mama Nkechi is a big thorn in my flesh. But change starts with one small step, and as a society, we must take that step together.
