Ever since the release of Avengers: End Game, many might agree that Marvel have found it difficult to release another masterpiece and this is despite the release of two installments from the Spiderman franchise. However, their script writers seem to have gotten their groove back with the third installment of the Deadpool franchise.

The much anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine was released in various theaters across Nigeria on the 26th of July 2024. This superhero film, which is directed by Shawn Levy, unites two of Marvel's most adored characters: the sardonic Deadpool and the gruff Wolverine. What was the outcome? An entertaining, jam-packed adventure that delivers on its promises.

The story centers on Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) & Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), who join forces to fight a danger that spans multiple universes. Although the plot is fairly easy to follow, there are a few unexpected turns along the way. Though the majority of the pacing is fast and captivating, there are times when the humor takes precedence over the tale, which could seem a little repetitive to certain viewers. And what really sets the film apart in the crowded superhero genre is the clever banter between Deadpool & Wolverine.

As Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds is at the peak of his performance, delivering his trademark humor at the ideal moment. His relationship with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine is electric; every scene they share is full of humor, passion, and the occasional touching moment. Jackman effortlessly transitions back into his legendary role as Wolverine, balancing his tough exterior with tender moments. The entire fun of the movie is enhanced by the supporting cast, which includes a few unexpected appearances from the X-Men universe.

In this movie, Shawn Levy's directing technique really comes through, expertly mixing humor and action. The film's cinematography is stunning, featuring well-composed broad views that accentuate the multiverse setting and dramatic camera work during battle scenes. The soundtrack of the movie is excellently matched to the mood of the movie, blending dramatic action tracks with softer music during the tearjerkers. Tyler Bates's score accompanies the film's transitions from comedy to intensity. Praise should also be given to the sound design, which shines in the action sequences where each blow, cut, and explosion is accentuated for maximum effect.

Deadpool & Wolverine strike the ideal mix between action, humor, and emotion, where many superhero movies fall short. Levy's dynamic direction, the clever screenplay, and Reynolds and Jackman's performances are what make the film strong. The only real flaw in the movie is a few pace sequences where the humor goes a little too far, but they are few and far between. 

Overall, Wolverine and Deadpool is a must-see. Combining two well-known characters in a novel and thrilling way, it's an immensely entertaining film. This movie has it all, whether it's the story, the action, or the laughs.
