WHERE IS HOME?
It's closing time
Miriam is anxious
Eager to get away
From the world of chaos
The compulsory busyness called a “job”
A certain building calls her name
Its cold, dreary solitude is all her heart
Wants, nay, needs
Mary wants to go home.
Zeke has been at sea
For weeks and months,
Busy as a bee
Exhausted to the bone
In his mind's eye,he sees,
A damsel, bright and fair, and two cherubs
Their warm hugs are all his heart
Wants, nay, needs
Zeke wants to go home.
Diamond's sighs have become,
A pain to those who sit beside her
For she sighs loudly, and heavily, too,
Her stomach grumbles, but not for food.
Few metres away, a bookstore looms large
Her pocket however, looms small.
She desperately longs to bury herself
In that fresh, crisp scent
Of paper and ink.
The black and white drawl of words,
The free transport to unknown worlds,
This bliss, this magic, are all her heart
Wants, nay, needs
Diamond wants to go home.
I, on the other hand, am quite greedy
'tis a sin, I know, but oh, what sin!
For I long for the best of all worlds.
I long for the solitude that Miriam craves,
Oh, how needed!
For the hugs that Zeke seeks
Oh, for a hug to stifle my pain!
For the books that Diamond wants
Oh,if it only took a story to soothe pain!
And even, for a hot plate
Of my favourite dish
For in the midst of my pain,
I am famished, dear reader!
A double tragedy, you may say,
But nonetheless,
All these, are what my heart
Wants, nay, needs
I want to go home.
