Noise: a world where writers have control over noise. Since noise signals movement which is a fundamental sign of life, the absence-silence must be death. Here, writers control life and death under a steady din of existence.

All animals were given sounds as a gift of autonomy over what kills them; mark territory, camouflage, hunt prey, or reproduce. An animal without a mating call risks the possibility of extinction. The sheer will of a lion to silence itself to the point of death as it stealthily approaches a deer; or to display a courageous roar are both unto survival. Only a writer is skilled to manipulate a world that the mischief of death and the life of noise serve the same purpose. Writing is another gift unto survival.

Yet external forces continue to determine the written works, overpowering the innate power of the writer to kill or to let live. The objective is to be able to create without interferences from the movement of the life that others are living. It is also to be the hunted deer- willing to move beyond enjoying the sound of their breath, to acknowledging that the silence of others can be the death of you. Writers in this world are able to exert balance to kill the evidence of their life, quieten the voices and produce a sound in their writing that lets them live.

In this ideal world then, writers take their godly place. One of the most famous stories ever written started when a being saw a blank slate and used their utterances to create everything that they thought was good. Isn’t that how all great stories start? In the beginning there was a blank sheet, then I silenced the noise in my head, and what have I written? Something good.
