The Last Lonely Night

In the picturesque town of Saint Kitts and Nevis, summer was in full bloom. The scent of blooming flowers filled the air, and the laughter of children echoed through the streets. Yet, for Scarlett Caldwell, the season only amplified her solitude. It had been a year since she moved to Saint Kitts and Nevis to escape a painful past, hoping to find solace in the quaint town. However, despite its charm, she often found herself longing for companionship.

One Friday evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Scarlett decided to visit a private beach to escape from the relentless pulse of the city. The beach was nearly empty, save for a few scattered figures in the distance. As she stepped onto the golden sands of the secluded beach, the air was thick with the scent of salt and the soothing rhythm of waves crashing against the shore.

She kicked off her sandals, relishing the warm, gritty sensation beneath her feet. She walked toward the water, feeling the gentle pull of the tide coax her closer. As she stood at the edge of the shore, the cool waves lapping at the toes, she closed her eyes and breathed deeply, letting the stress of the city wash away with the receding tide.

Opening her eyes, she noticed a figure down the beach, closer than the rest. He was hunched over, seemingly engrossed in something on the sand. Curiosity piqued, she wandered closer, her steps light and hesitant. As she approached him, the man gaze up, his striking sea-green eyes locked with hers and he offered a gentle smile. His smile was charming enough to make Scarlett’s heat skip a beat.

“Hi,” he greeted, his voice fruity and calming. “I didn’t expect see anyone else here by this time.”

“Me neither,” Scarlett replied, returning his smile. “I needed a break from the city. I don’t know if it’s just me, but it gets overwhelming sometimes.”

He nodded, “I wouldn’t agree less. I’m Tyler, by the way” he introduced, extending his hand.

“Scarlett,” she replied, stepping closer and shaking his hand. Her eyes darted to the sandcastle he was building, complete with turrets and a moat. Her lips curved up into a smile, “That’s impressive.”

Tyler chuckled, glancing back to his creation. “Thanks. I find it relaxing and it helps me focus.”

“It’s beautiful. I don’t think I’ve seen a detailed one like yours before” she sat down nearby.

“You should join in the creation” he suggested handing her a small shell.

She smiled and took it from him, her fingers brushed his and they felt a spark subtle but undeniable. They worked on the sandcastle, their conversation flowed effortlessly. They talked about their lives, their dreams, the city, and the peace they found in simple moments like these. Scarlett learned that Tyler is an English professor in one of the universities in the city and was just like her who moved into the city a year ago.

Scarlett found herself opening up about her past heartache, something she hadn’t done with anyone since moving to Saint Kitts and Nevis. Tyler listened with empathy, his presence providing an unexpected comfort. She realized how natural it felt to be here with Tyler, as if they had known each other for years. They both felt a connection and an unspoken understanding.

As the last rays of sunlight danced on the horizon, they sat back admiring their work. Tyler turned to her, his eyes dipped inro hers making Scarlett’s heart swell with a feeling she hadn’t expected. “Will I get the chance to see you again?”

Scarlett felt an overwhelming sense of peace sitting next to Tyler. She felt like she had found something truly special, a connection that transcended the ordinary. It has been a long time she felt something this extraordinary. “Yes, you will.”

Days wane quickly and the bond they share got stronger. One evening, as they lay next to each other under the stars on the rooftop of Tyler’s apartment, Tyler gently took her hand.

“Scarlett, please be my Juillet” his right finger write the invisible words above her chest close to her right shoulder.

Scarlett gulped some saliva to her dried throat. “Why should I be your Juillet?”

His finger started writing on her chest again with his lips following what he was writing. “I’m tired of admiring you from a distance.”

Scarlett let out a sharp breath and stayed still in the comfort of his arms.

“Meeting you has made me feel something I haven’t felt in a long time. I’m tired of having you in front of me when I can’t even kiss your lips. I’m tired of having you in my arms when I can’t caress you the way I desire to. I’m tired of sharing a bed with you when I can’t make love to you. I just want you to be my Juillet. You give me so much peace of mind and happiness. What else could a man ever want from a woman aside from the one who makes him extraordinarily happy and gives him peace of mind? Whenever I’m around you I just feel so comfortable. Why can’t you just be mine, Scarlett?”

In that moment, under the stars, Scarlett felt a shift within her heart. She realized that maybe, just maybe, this could be the beginning of something wonderful. As she looked into Tyler’s eyes, she saw hope and a promise of a future where lonely nights were a thing of the past.

“I guess this is the end of our lonely nights” she whispered.

“Is that a, yes?” Tyler’s eyes glint.

Scarlett smiles. “Yes, it is. I’ll be your Juillet and you’ll be my Romeo.”

Tyler’s chest rose and fell with relief. His eyes sparks with a new hope. He cupped her face into his hands and sealed the beginning of their journey with a passionate kiss.

The End!
