What Makes a Family? Blood, Bonds, or Belonging?

The concept of family is multifaceted. Traditionally, we see it as a unit with parents and children. But what about those whose experiences don't fit this mold?.

Many of us have been fortunate to experience the love and support of blood relatives. These are the people who would do anything for us, the ones we share laughter and tears with. However, family isn't solely defined by blood. For some, the traditional family structure is absent. This could be due to a lack of love or support from biological relatives, or even harsh circumstances that force children to fend for themselves. In these situations, the very definition of family transforms. It becomes a community, a group of people who offer the love, care, and understanding that may be missing at home. These "chosen families" can be friends, colleagues, or even strangers who offer a helping hand.

These chosen families may not share blood, but they share experiences and a sense of belonging. They are the ones who make you feel safe, understood, and accepted for who you truly are. They are the ones who put a smile on your face on a bad day, listen to your worries, and support you through thick and thin.

Ultimately, family isn't about blood or circumstance. It's about the connections that make us feel loved, supported, and understood. It's about finding your "tribe," the people who make you feel like you can truly be yourself. Whether they are blood relatives, chosen family, or even a community of kind strangers, these are the people who make life richer and more meaningful.

To the children living on the streets, we are their safe space. We are Family.
