I was opportune to come across this movie some days ago and like the enthusiast I am, I was drawn to its title, Beckett. My interest immediately peaked when I saw it had John David Washington as one of its major cast. As a big fan of him, I had no choice but to check it out. I’ve been mostly into TV series lately so adjusting back to a movie person needed the right one and Beckett was just that body of work I needed. Finally, I made the decision to check it out and it was such an amazing journey.

To begin with, I love how the movie started. In a way that one would have never guessed its theme, scenes depicting romance in its familiar rawness with John David Washington who plays the role of Beckett and his girlfriend, April played by Alicia Vikander sets this movie rolling. This goes on for several moments and we see how they both love each other. It becomes clear that they’re tourists in the city of Greece and obviously came on a vacation to have some relaxing moments to themselves. This soon comes to an unfortunate end as they become both involved in an accident and a tragedy unfolds. I won’t want to be a spoiler giver so I’ll just be giving you certain parts I enjoyed in this amazing body of work.

Firstly, I love how the movie unfolds, how it swiftly moves from a place of love and joy to its total opposite. This surprise is one I’ll describe as a good plot twist. It’s common to see most survival themed movies delve right into the thick of it but this slowly progresses and makes it easy for anyone watching to fully absorb themselves into the movie and just have a good time with it.

Also, how till the end, the reason behind Beckett being hunted remained a blur is something I really enjoyed. The mystery behind it all kept me going and just trying to piece certain things together. I also love the fact the main character wasn’t someone with a special training or ability. It made me relate so much to the whole situation and just enjoy different feelings emoted throughout the movie. I really liked the whole scenery of the settings, the natural feel of it and how they complimented the delivery of the characters.

To cap it all, I also appreciated the action scenes. They didn’t feel unrealistic and neither did they feel forced, which one element the movie held all through. And how it all made sense towards the end was a nice tactic at getting us to follow all through. I’ll give this movie a 8.5 over 10. So if you’re looking for that survival-themed movie that feels natural and yet has you thinking all through, Beckett is what you should check out. And besides, it’s John David Washington. It doesn’t get any better (inserts wink emoji.)
