A Letter to my Best-Friend

Dear Efa,

I hope this letter finds you sitting beneath the Iroko tree, where we often played Ayo Opon while the gentle wind kissed us both at every turn. It was also our safe space, where nothing ever seemed to change, except time. Today I come to you with nothing but a bag of requests and the hope that you’ll be kind to my not so big wishes.

From our adventures together at Ilarun, your companionship stickled like a glue, you stayed right by my side, like the vows we made, many years ago. Your presence in my life brought immeasurable joy and happiness, and for that I’m eternally grateful. Now I dare to dream a little bigger, far above my horizons, and as always, I need your assistance in granting these wishes my dear friend.

Firstly, I seek boundless creativity, Ore. Now you might say, the plaques in my office tell a different story, but we both know when it comes to being creative, no one does it better than you my dear friend. With your help I believe I can unlock greater levels of creativity with the pen and craft works of art that pull readers into this fragile world of mine to inspire and leave them lost for words but wildly in their thoughts, just as I am.

Secondly, I wish to be bold like the sun that shines so bright, not to care about, whether she’s too hot or too cold, just like you dear friend. The way you educated our mates and lecturers, was too great to behold dear friend, I wish for the boldness to publish my hidden thoughts for the world to see, and even Abeke the one my shyness took away from me.

Thirdly, I wish for balance my dear friend. The kind that gives me freedom to see the world with clarity and understanding. Not from a rich’s man perspective, nor from a poor man’s perspective. I wish to see the world as it really is and not let pain be the veil that shrouds my vision. With this I’ll enrich lives and the make the world around me, a bit prettier.

Moreover, I wish for true love my dear friend, a bit cringe? I know, but I feel the urge to love without needing to hold back or care about the day, my better half will stop loving me dear friend. I must confess, I miss Abeke, and her smile, pretty as the sky, reminds me of all the peace in this world, I do not ask for much dear friend, even if it’s for a moment, I’ll love to be with Abeke once again, and heal my broken heart once again.

Lastly, my friend, I wish for boundless friendship, the kind that we both share dear friend, Aang said, some friendships tend to transcend even lifetimes, I want that kind with you Efa.

With boundless gratitude and unwavering faith,

Ifeanyi,

Somewhere on Earth.
