I met Immanuel at the lowest point,
I had just failed a promotional exam and ran to the chemist that hot afternoon, I stopped in front of the pharmacy and straightened up I knew they were not going to sell it to me if I looked as anxious as I did so I fixed my hair, practiced my calm voice and stepped in.
'Good Afternoon sir'
'Ah ah, doc - how are you? what can I get you?'
'800grams of Benylin sir'
'Hm, is it for ?'
'They asked me to outsource at the hospital sir- we -we are out'
'Oh -okay, let me get it for you'
'Thank you, sir'
For someone who prided themself in having still hands, my hands betrayed me now as they ranged like an old engine trying to start- I quickly collected it and shoved it into my pocket- I ran out of the pharmacy.
Got home, opened it up and forgot I did not have water, stepped out again to buy water.
'Don't drink it'
My head turned so fast I thought my neck was going to snap.
'What- what do you mean? why - why shouldn't I drink water ?' I gazed at the man looking into my soul.
'You know what I'm talking about' he paid for his bread and walked out of the store, I followed.
two years later and I'm still following.
So when he started twisting and turning at the side of his bed, I was concerned.
He had started with deep sighs, rejecting his food and staring into blanks, he would look intently at people and would come home and weep. weep from dusk to dawn, weep in agony, weep in love, weep in despair, he said his heart ached, he said his heart broke.
'What is wrong my lover? what troubles your heart ?'
'It's them'
'Who's them?'
'All these people who do not accept me, all these people who say they do not need me, that they can reach Him on their own, they're so- so broken Em, they're incomplete, I want their souls'
'Is that it?' I asked looking into those same eyes that I had looked into at the store.
'Yes, that's it, wha-what are you doing Em?"
I was wearing my shoes and dragging my cardigan over my head.
'I'm going to get them'
