SELF-LOVE CANNOT REPLACE ROMANCE

Howdy Lovebirds! Valentine's greetings are in order. In the spirit of the season, let’s talk about love, baby🎶

So, I was listening to a podcast– The To My Sisters Podcast– and the co-host(Renèe) shared an intriguing Tiktok she came across. A lady was explaining how she is implementing self-love, but it is not replacing the desire for a romance in her life. And I thought this was such an interesting conversation.

Let's dive into it, shall we?

You are most likely familiar with the self-love movement of the 21st century. If you aren't, in simple terms it is taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your well-being to please others.

Some people might argue that it is repackaged capitalism because of its portrayal on social media– the solo dates, the spa weekends, all with the #self-love caption. However, its original intent is to improve the quality of living, not necessarily through material things, but by working out the complexities of your inner person.

Now, it might be possible that in our bid to promote self-love, its original intent has become lost in the noise.

When I heard the podcaster say ‘self-love cannot replace romance’, my first thought was ‘Is it supposed to?’

So, I am throwing it back to you. Do you think self-love can be so fulfilling it replaces your desire for romantic love? Please reply with your answers.

I don't want to assume, but I would.  And I’d say a majority of us don't think it does.

The human experience is so unique that it leaves room for platonic, romantic, agape love. Why would you limit your experience to a trend?

Go forth and leave. Once again, happy Valentine's Day. I hope you have a lovely day filled with joy and laughter from the people who care about you.

Share this with someone who might need it. Baiiii, see you next month.

And happy Ash Wednesday.
