Coffee

I met you in the middle of the day

I remember the time

As clear as day

The sun shinning a bit hard

The air stiff

My hair packed up in a rush

My glasses perched on my nose

You walked up to me

“Coffee or tea?”

Tea I answered

Not bothering to look up

But somehow I did

My neck raising slowly

And you stood there

Your mouth holding a polite smile

And we both gasped

A silent shared sigh

You were beautiful

The sunlight no match for your aura

It radiated

Forcing its way into my heart

I saw our future then

The shared quiet jokes

Your back leaning into me as I steal a kiss

Watching you talk about your interests

The nights our passion was the only sound we could hear in our home

Your hair buried into the pillow

Your eyes staring straight into mine

Your gasps as you pulled me closer

I could see it all

But all I said that day was

“Coffee please”

You would tease me years later

Telling me you thought of telling me

“Let’s run away. Now.”
