Q - Shamzydane, tell us about yourself and your musical background.

A - My name is Shalom Terem and I’m from Cross River State. I’m 22 years old and I started making music professionally in 2019. Back in secondary school I was in the choir; but I wasn’t singing, I played instruments and the fact that I consumed a lot of music has influenced me: I started liking music more, I started rapping and singing. I just got interested in music as a whole.

Q - what made you decide to get into music?

A- Well, I was actually doing for fun, but then I realized that I need to actually take it professionally so I started spending money on my music, trying to push it further and take it more like a career rather than just something I do for fun.

Q - Do you have a favorite genre?

A- I like rap, but I would say that say that my favorite genre is Afrobeats. I like it because you can do anything on it, it’s very versatile and it just sounds really good.

Q - what do you think has influenced your sound.

A- Well, my surroundings, people I have been with, my friends, scenarios and experiences. Just life in general.

Q - How do you go about your songwriting process?

A- To be honest, it just happens. I could be reading and just get inspiration, and I’ll just close my books and start writing songs or, I can be playing football and id just leave and no one would be able to know that I’m going to write music. It’s just like that, it’s spontaneous.

Q - How do you plan on standing out in an over-saturated industry?

A- Well, I try to put it work and also be smart about anything I’m doing, because it’s not about being the most hardworking person in the industry. I’m just trying to build my style and incorporate fashion into my music so that people can think of fashion and aesthetics whenever they see me or listen to my music.

Q - What were some limitations and lessons from your last project that you won’t let affect you now?

A- I used to feel like I wasn’t doing enough in relation to dropping music. I’m always in my head thinking “guy, you’re not working, you’re not doing anything” but people outside always gave me reassurance that I am doing something, so I feel like I don’t want to think too much into it anymore, I just want to do the work and be calm with it.

Q - what’s next for Shamzy?

A- Yeah, just further my music and take it everywhere. I want to perform my music and see how people react and listen to my music. So you guys should to my new single: link me up, available on all streaming platforms; and follow me on all social media @Shamzydane
